On my last weekend in Berlin we spent much time visiting a number of places as a way of saying farewell to the summer, and to the city.
One of these visits was to visit a tall hill, the tallest near Berlin, just outside the city, only a couple of miles from the neighborhood where we’ve been staying. The view of the city was wonderful.
The hill is the grass-covered remnants of a landfill, filled with the refuse and wreckage of post-war Berlin. It is truly a hill built by the National Socialists and is one of the most appropriate monuments to that era.
