When we think of 1969 we don’t often think of Apollo 11 first, or even eleventh. To me, it still stands with Los Alamos as one of the most important projects in America, perhaps ever.

And yet in retrospect it (the dream of humans in space) was essentially over (for at least a century I think) at this moment of breathtaking achievement.
